Why New Myofunctional Therapists Overspend

I recently watched a clip of Alex Hormozi on Jay Shetty’s podcast On Purpose, where he broke down the five stages every new entrepreneur goes through. As I listened, I realized it mapped almost perfectly onto what happens to so many dental hygienists and dentists who are new to myofunctional therapy.

It starts with uninformed optimism. You hear myo is the next big thing, and you jump in without really understanding what it takes.

Then comes informed pessimism. You are in it now, and it is harder, slower, and more expensive than you expected.

From there, a lot of people slide into what Hormozi calls the valley of despair. This is where the real damage happens. People start spending more, not because they have a clear plan, but because they feel like they have already invested too much to stop.

The Myofunctional Therapy Education Gap

Here is the part that frustrates me most. For a long time, there has not been a real in between option for people exploring this field. You either find scattered free content across YouTube and social media, or you jump straight into a full price, multi week certification course before you even know if myofunctional therapy is the right fit for you.

That gap is exactly why so many well meaning, capable dental professionals end up overwhelmed and financially stretched before they ever see a single patient.

It is also why I believe educators in this space have a responsibility to do better.
